The battery information shown by an operating system comes from measurements and estimates supplied through the platform. Percentage, charging state, and capacity are related values, but none is a direct measurement of how long every workload will run.
How the pieces connect
Battery-management electronics monitor conditions and report data through a firmware-defined interface. The operating system combines available information with its own presentation and power policy. Remaining time can change as workload, screen brightness, radios, and temperature change. A capacity estimate is therefore different from a guarantee about the duration of the next session.
An everyday example
Playing a video and compiling a large project can produce different run-time estimates at the same displayed percentage. Connecting external power may also leave the reported charge below the highest possible value when a documented charge-management policy is active. The number on screen is a summary of a managed system, not an isolated reading from a simple fuel gauge.
Reading the information in context
Battery health terminology varies across manufacturers and tools. Design capacity, estimated full-charge capacity, and current charge describe different quantities. Do not compare them as if they were interchangeable or assume one sample establishes long-term wear. For physical battery handling and charging limitations, consult the computer maker's safety and service information rather than a general software reference.
